Using a GPS unit as an external touchscreen for PC
Hey there people,
Okay, first of i have search on this one for a little bit.. Usually my keywords are not to bad, but i could be having a bad day as any. So anyway, it to what i have been curious about for the past 20 minutes or so..
GPS Units, As in the handheld/car/portable units that are sold from most car places. Navman, Garmin, TomTom and all the other brands. Most of these have a USB interface or other means to connect to the computer and operate a form of Windows CE. Cut down from what i could see on most.
Is there currently a project, software or something out there about a two piece application and or driver setup that allows a networking screen display. So being able to share the screens either way, I'm mostly curious about getting the control of the GPS unit.
So for an example, XP being the CarPC. CE being the GPS Unit..
Having the CE comp showing a fullscreen menu/app generated from the XP comp, Then the user would respond with a touch or two of course then the mouse X,Y are sent to the XP comp to respond so forth and load or generate what ever needs to be. So extending your GUI to a networked or possible driver controlled external USB device.
The other part of this i did wonder about would be being able to also hook into the GPS receiver and use this with any application or to which ever level. So for people who say have GPS unit laying around already that seems of no use or are current running a separate GPS device as no USB module/dongle.
Dont get me wrong, it could already be out there.. A waist of time or no use, but its a thought that i had a quick look into and thought would share on here?
