i dont think the difference is dramatic enough to really matter. 5hz is a little nicer, but its actually can make navigating harder because everything is moving constantly, making it harder to read the notation on the screen. the 1hz refresh rate naturally pauses the screen for a second so its easier to read.

i think though once software matures the 5hz will be a lot better. once the software can throw out the odd-ball points so the map doesnt jump around (which happens more with 5hz receivers because theres 5x more calculations goin on), and it can artificially smooth out the transitions things should be better.

that, and they really need to start kicking out more 10hz receivers. thats where you really start to see actual "smoothness"

Ordered one on amazon... I made a trip last week no more than 10mi from my residence and the bu-353 kept on displaying "out of range" when I got near to the destination but my friend had already knew the way there and we got there on time. That led me to believe that my gps is lacking in something. It's not the first time it had happened but we'll see if this new gps puck will be better once installed and I will make the same trip again and update accordingly...

Sure does. Used it today @ the default 9600 baud rate and it worked well without choppyness like the BU-353

I got one, too. Just hooked to a PC for now, but wow! Great signal in the house. Had to get the latest virtual usb driver to get it connected.

Yeah i agree. I generally get no signal if not just one bar with the bu-353 in my garage but with the new puck, i get full signal even in the garage

I just noticed something today that I didn't notice with the bu-353... I have the new gps puck set at the same spot which is on my center speaker grill right above the radio... I got into the car this afternoon and the puck was extremely hot to the touch. Still managed to pick up 7 sats but the gps did not correlate with the iGuidance maps... Anyone else experience this too? I'm thinking the bu-353 is meant to be on the roof of the car so it can withstand harsh conditions while the 5hz puck isn't. So naturally, i put the puck underneath the grill for now.

EDIT 06-07-2011: Sure was the heat that made the gps puck "disoriented" for lack of better description. BU-353 never had an issue with heat.
