Question for you Mickz, while using my Igo GPS today it has speed for each road segment (several incorrect)
Does the openstreetmap / navigator free support this?
Yes I believe so, I added more the other day along with updated speed cameras. Also any road you click on has an edit option to set or correct the average and Max speed limits for that road or section of road. I haven’t tried it but its there for what that’s worth.
I haven’t been in the car for about 5 days as I’m completely re-doing the car-PC cabling to what looks like a factory loom – layout, should be finished today.
Good job lol
Ok that is awesome, as long as it is there that means it can be worked on :)
We are more than happy to compromise if it is a planned upgrade. We will need you to place the PC online so we can access it remotely before, and after the upgrade and before Windows is activated as we read some of the activation data from M$ and then reset the key.

Thanks Mal but sometimes it is not a planned upgrade but a forced change due to equipment failure.
Sounds fair enough. At least there is someone to actually talk to about things like this as opposed to... pretty much every other solution out there. Hopefully I'll get time to do this in the next few days. Thanks for the heads-up!

This has been a problem when looking up an address or POI in a hurry while on the road. I always pull over, but even with glasses it’s a pain to read sometimes. If my wife is with me she punches in the address while I’m driving, however her short vision is worse than mine and she’s a lot younger, even with glasses she sometimes gets lost in the search screens (must be a female thing).
Now the car pc with its 8” LCD is a lot easier to use that my smaller backup Garmin GPS, however it’s still a pain along with other GPS applications that I’ve tried, but Odyssey is fantastic!
A two hour trip through really heavy traffic in a very complex area of shops and freeways was effortless with this software. Spoken directions are the best I have ever used and it really is like having a passenger who knows the area back to front giving you (correct and timely) lane and turn directions. Finding a local bank and a couple of addresses was easy for my wife who had never used the Odyssey software.
Just gave it a burn today, I'd have to agree that the directions are more helpful than the previous Garmin solution I was using (nRoute). The distance indicators are also more realistic, previously I had to keep second-guessing what it was telling me, but Odyssey does seem to be more accurate in this regard. My only niggle with it was the UK English voice files were a little inconsistant as far as levels go, if you have a high noise floor, window open etc... sometimes the critical piece of information seemed quieter. For example, it seemed like it was saying:

This can be easily rectified with an audio editing program though. Sometimes her enunciation does leave a little bit to be desired, but far preferable to the US english voice. I think I shall call her Harriot.
I don’t have the noise problem as the vehicle is very quiet even with the sun roof open, I went with the US voice because I think it announced speech a little faster. My sound system has a manual knob next to the drivers seat to quickly control the volume from the PC (maybe that helps as I tend to adjust it a lot) and I’m in the process of adding auto volume that compensates for speed and road noise.
I haven’t switched Garmin or NAV11 on since I installed Odyssey and that’s saying something as Garmin was really, really good. It will be interesting to see what you come up with for modified sounds, I would like to hear them when/if you get the time to do it.
quick question guys, judging Odyssey uses .OGG files, there is no TTS? ie. spoken street names?
