Thread: iguidance no more? Alternative?

I confirmed with Copilot last week that you can not resize the window. On another note, the map coverage is horrible in Canada, atleast in my area. I was not able to test the software until I put the carputer back in the car after storage for the winter. The Copilot Canada map does not have my street. I am going back to IGuidance, the map is still current and way more detailed. Also, although I did not spend a lot of time the map font is too small for a 7 inch monitor, perhaps there is some way to compensate, but did not see it.

Sno, have you gotten it to embed? Kool350 claims it doesn't. I don't care so much about CA maps as I rarely rarely go there.

Sorry for the confusion but I am -zip- as well, password issues. Sno on Elmview Gardens. When I search Elmview Copilot shows no list of the street name except City Center. I can get to Keswick ON, Then when I type Elmview it just brings up <city center> and if you look on the map, the road name is blank, but it shows Metro Road.

OK, sorry. I just wanted to pull that over here as the fact that you confirmed it doesn't allow for window re size absolutely kills copilot in my mind. I guess that explains the reason this software doesn't have a large following on here. Wish this could have been known before Zip lost money.

Is Navit as difficult to get running as it sounds?

well i use CF 3.6 and it embeds fine using apploader, as for zip's problem your street is not named correctly it is labeled grounds not garden. I think you can put request for name change using the mapsure icon in settings. Also Driveline frontend app allows copilot to embed as well, i am just waiting on that FE to get some radio support and i will switch over to that at some point. Not sure about font size, I can read them on the 5" HTC advantage and the 7" screen in truck. SNO

It depends. What OS are you running? I have navit running on my linux box... I know it runs on windows, I just haven't tried. I have noted that the OpenMobile guys are using navit -- and that's primary a windows build. Take a look here:

To start off with -- don't try to compile it. Use the daily images. If it installs ok for you -- post back and I can help you configure it. Then we can note its short comings.

I run xp in the car. I installed navit on my desktop and it came up. Shows Munchen. Looks like it only has a small grid of maps. I'll do some research on Navit tomorrow if I have time. I just remember looking at it earlier when it was suggested and the "how to get it going" section was complicated. (or I could be mixing things up in my head)

Edit... I see how to download maps...

For all those who might not know, navit mostly uses openstreetmaps (although it can use garmin maps as well).

Thanks SNO yeah I saw the Grounds thing too, did not look at it close enough to see if the street is actually the correct one when I looked at it on the weekend. I will check it out tomorrow.

tricky to get Navit to run.

the navit.xml file doesn't want to open in my xml editor

I downloaded a map of my area, got the map to center pretty close to my location

tried removing the linux line in the .xml file to enable windows (somehow the com port settings were correct for my GPS puck)

Navit now crashes, time to re-install.
