Well, I've finally decide to get either the Deluo or the Earthmate for my car. I've been using a handheld GPS, and it's simply not permanent or hidable enough. That being said, I'm trying to decide between usb and serial. I've done a little reading here, but other than the recent thread that mentioned serial GPS's don't work with Netstumbler, I haven't found many hard facts one way other the other. Does USB have trouble waking back up after being hibernated or suspended? I have read a couple of fleeing posts making reference to that, but didn't know if it was true for all usb GPSs or just particular ones. I like the USB because of the ease of using one plug and being able to extend it and such, but if it has problems with compatibility and or hibernate/suspend, I'll probably just go with the serial. So, any thoughts one way or the other? Any of you really happy/unhappy with your purchase? Any advice to share?

I'm pretty happy with my Sapphire GPS, which is currently plugged into a USB2 hub under my dash. It picks up a fix real quick too.
Not had any problems with the mouse coming out of standby/hibernate...only my dodgy VB programming
I've not used any serial GPS devices, but from my experiences with the Sapphire USB model, I probably won't be getting a serial in the future

i just bought the serial deluo and no proabs here. i use it on my laptop for nav and netstumbler. i just leave it plugged in all the time from house to car.
i big issue for me is power. USB GPS's power themselves. serial either need batteries or MORE WIRESOriginally Posted by Taytay

Currently using USB. Had no probs at all. Plus points as above, less wires and is self powered.
I have the Hiacom (sp?) HI-203E from Ebay. Locks quick and holds great.

I use MapPoint 2002 with an Haicom HI-203E no problem.

I would use USB but I got the RandMcNally serial first and for 60 buks.
I'm happy with it, but would rather just plug in 1 usb plug instead of the custom molex I made and then into the serial.
The new NetStumbler when ever he releases it, will support more devices I hope.
RandMcNally works with netstumbler. My old D-Link USB WiFi did also, for like 10 seconds and on and off. (Not supported at all in that release)

Make sure you get powered hubs.I have 1 in front, and 1 in back. 8 ports total.
If the GPS outputs NMEA or Garmin protocols, then NetStumbler should support it.
I was more refering to the support of non Prism chipset devices. WiFi
