Is your GPS receiver a true USB? or a serial but with a USB adapter? Mine's serial but with a USB adapter. The receiver has a mini DIN plug. The receiver's mini DIN plug is interchangeable with serial cable or an USB cable. Mine came with the USB cable. The USB cable has a 1 cubic inch black box on the box that does the serial to USB conversion. That's why after I installed the Copilot software and configured the CP receiver I got the "Cypress USB HID (COM 7)" in my device manager. I can goto the advance propority setting and change the COM port number.

hrm... i believe it is a true usb

I do have a copy of copilot 2000 that has a serial receiver that I have not used, maybe i should just add a 2nd receiver...

my cable is just a simple usb cable that is the same kind of cable that goes to a usb hub, so i guess i might be SOL unless alk/travroute gives me a workaround

To hack your GPS into working with copilot you need to enable the following sentances, and ONLY the following sentences
    GGA
    GSV
    GPRMC

That should trick copilot into believing that you have a copilot GPS installed. I've had great sucess, but it's not flawless. Sometimes after 2-3 hours it will figure out that it's the wrong GPS. Restart copilot and you're good to go for another 2-3 hours.

Also, It will constantly report "Searching for satilites." on the top screen while in passenger mode, and the detour button won't work.

Do you think this info is worth a sticky? Seems to be a common question.

    I used GPSDiag http://download.com.com/3000-2130-49...l?tag=lst-0-12
How you enable and disable sentances varies from recever to recever. Check your manuals. They will tell you the proper commands to send to your GPS.

I don't know if the Earthmate GPS has configurable output. You'll have to check that too.

Just get CoPliot Live Laptop 7. If you have a registered version of CoPilot, the upgrade is $99.00 and it includes shipping. It works with all NEMA compliant GPS. Mine came with USA, Canada, and Europe. The $99.00 included the activation keys for the USA and Canada. I don't know how much Europe is. There are a few things I don't like about it such as the new speech engine and the fact that it has to be activated on line or by phone, but once activated, you can copy it to any computer you want and it works. There more features like traffic updates if you have a connected PC.
