    GPS16 :
    Reacquisition: Less than 2 seconds
    Warm: Approximately 15 seconds

Go for a new recever. The hockypuck recevers stink. You'll be much happier with a Garmin GPS 35 or 16.

I've got a Sapphire USB, very quick to lock, quite attractive too if you need to have it on the dash

The Garmin GPS16 is what I wanted to get, but I couldn't justify its cost to myself, so I've got the usb earthmate. It's into a powered usb hub, and locks before I get into SA.

I have this BU-303 GPS and paid $68 and $12 to get it. It has a magnet on the bottom and is USB powered. It is really nice being able to mount on the top of the SUV. It fits right in the center above the rear door. It locks on from a cold start in 48 seconds. This is faster than I get the puter up and running with a GPS program. To answer the question as to lock on, the GPS must lock onto the satellites to receive the needed info to tell you where you are. This particular GPS locks onto 12 satellites. Compare that to my older serial gps from Earthmate, which I think locked on to 6 sats and took about 4 minutes from a cold start. It also ate 4 AA batteries about every 8 or so hours.
I am not familiar with the "deluo gps" so cannot answer as to lock on for it.
    Have fun,
    Gary

I have the same GPS reciever mate, and am very impressed with it, cost me bugger all off ebay, and locks before my Windows XP boots.

Infomap Navigator on the hand is a bit ****e, and gets me lost all the time, I need some decent GPS software.

    I love the Garmin 35!

Street Atlas RWE is the best of all the ones I have used (I have not used Copilot or Mappoint)...HOWEVER, if I had the money and computing power, I would run the new Copilot.

The MS programs, like streets and trips would move the dot every 15 seconds (unless you hacked it)

Street Atlas is constantly updating position.

Lock is how long it takes after you turn your GPS receiver on, before your GPS receiver knows where it is (from a cold start)...for the most part the cheaper the GPS receiver the longer it takes to lock...also the older systems take longer.

I use CoPilot and SA+ 2004, both have their advantages

I have used the Holux which very fast, the earthmate is slow and sometimes never locks(usually when I am going 75 on the freeway), The receiver that came with CoPilot 2003 is good and is what i use now.
