Anybody tried to use this for carputer nav in Australia?

    Hi everyone,
I've seen this page for a while now and was wondering how hard it would be to implement into a carputer or if anyone has already attemted to do so?

It says that "It is designed to be compatible with all major 'In-Car' navigation systems, including the Blaupunkt Travel Pilot, VDO/Dayton, Magellan, Mitsubishi Electric, Garmin and Denso systems."... Most of our carputer OS are built on Win/Linux/Mac/etc. I have no access in any of those expensive systems mentioned, they mostly have their own OS so I don't know if it will work for a carputer idea. To make it simple, anything that understand NMEA should work, I use GPSS to decode NMEA signals so any GPS unit that output NMEA works in my carputer setup. This is interesting though, I may have to look into it. BTW, I bought a UBD Digital Street Mapping CD just to use the map (it also has an access to Whereis Online), upon testing I found out that its longtitude and latitude is offset by several meters so I could'nt use it.

Its time to revive this thread :P

I have the Whereis Navigation CD (verion 5) with me atm. A friend of mine installs GPS in cars and he lent the CD to me.
Problem is its got 4 or 5 files on the CD (150MB all up) but none of them are readable on the PC. Does anyone know if there is some sort of emulator for this software? If there is I will make an ISO of the CD and host it on my server.

I think that the data that is used by whereis is provided by Sensis - I spoke to the rep at CeBit last year, and he commented that though the data was NMEA compatible, and should work with other hardware. The nice thing is that they don't do hardware, so they were happy to talk about software only. Having said that though, I don't know how much this rep really knew.

Do they have a app to read the maps as well that you can get your grubby paws on?

Cool I have a Whereis CD for my Carin in car GPS

    Hey guys,
i'm in melbourne, Australia, and i'm already using a whereis CD in my car. I'm currently putting together my car pc and i was about to buy the traveroute copilot laptop 7 (damn expensive). I'm not even sure if I'll be able to embed it in MediaCar. I'll need plenty of luck this time. I can hope i can be helpful here.
