I'd say get one of those GPS mice,(Black and put electrical tape over the led) I was never comfortable leving that yellow POS delome thing in the window for fear of theft...

Hmmm. Well it seems that if you are scared of theft I would be inclined to be more worried about the huge 7" screen sitting in the middle of your dashboard than the little GPS mouse that most theives wouldn't know what it was anyway.

yup, my car was broken into before. they took a digital camera, a pair of sun glasses and other valuable in the car, but they left the usb delorme gps alone. the gps was left with the other stolen items.

Screen is going to take a miracle to get out
I'm going to bolt and fibreglass it into the dash, and you'd have to dismantle the dash... as all things in theft, it's about time and risk, too much of either and they'll pass...

I put my tripmate under the plastic cowl attached with just double face tape.
It still works fine after over two years there.
Just be sure to pick a spot that clears the wiper linkage.

I spend enough time in towns with numbers for names and tree canopies so thick you can barely see sun. I've never had a problem with this placement, and no passanger has commented on it.

the previous model delorme gps i have doesnt have the connector at the gps level (just has a wire coming out). if you want to mount it outside, all you need is a good dose of sealant around the cracks and your good to go. my friend did that for years with his old delorme gps, and that as back in '99.

not sure how hard it would be to seal the new ones though, connector makes it just a tad harder.

dont like the bright yellow color? spraypaint it!

did I hear correctly that some people mounted their GPS hidden under the dash with no problems? Sounding like a good place to put my new one. not worried about theft, just beats the hell out of the roof

I have the yellow POS too, then I replaced it with a bigger but better Destinator2 package. Since I have a sunroof, I actually mount that thing outside under the sunroof deflector. Since it's black, it's not as noticable as the bright yellow one. That yellow POS is so horrible, I could hardly get a connection even when mounted on the outside.

I like it, what's a bit annoying is it uses a usb to serial driver to emulate a com port, which is I guess how most software looks for a gps unit, but why am I running 4800 bps on this thing that should do well over 115200 ?? Legacy BS
But I think that, that would be no different on another system.
