Hi everyone!
I start developing a Internet based sofware for my new nice CAR-PC.
It should give me via speech output Traffic, Weather and other News.
I want to take the GPS Signal logfile and send it the last Position to my server.
There he will show my local Wheater, Trafficreport etc...
Only Problem ist so far how to send the GPS Data automaticly into the Web.

I don't need no stinkin' startup-shutdown controller... That's what journalized filesystems are for...

While we're on the subject. One thing that i've always dreamed of is something of that nature. Wouldn't it be so cool if we had a network for reporting information to eachother - particularly Police hidindg (like the Speedtrap registry website but better), as well as accidents, construction, etc. You could click a button and upload coordinates from the GPS to a central server that could link to a mapping program and warn you when you're approaching an event. I'm sure it will happen one day, if it's not being done already. Probably first with constructions and accident alerts (traffic.com type stuff!) and eventually some a-hole like me will build a speedtrap network. I probably won't be the a-hole cause I just don't know enough to pull it off.
Maybe one day...
Yeah, we had this thirty years ago. It was called CB Radio.Originally Posted by swzine

Get the T-Mobile Color Sidekick, I hear you can use it as a wireless 56k modem and upload GPS coordinates and anything else back to your home server, etc...
What would be cool is to make a small GPS device that blue tooth's into any phone 10m away and uploads it's position to you, that way if you car gets stolen, all that has to happen is one of the car-stripper guys has a bluetooth phone and Bingo You know where it is, kind of like passive Lo-Jack !![]()
Yea I really like this idea. They have something like this for UK but nothing for US

Plus it doesn't plug into the computer. I did a google search for USB GPS and only one item was really relevatant and it was for the UK. The USB connection only was for updating the new Speed traps
