    Signal pickup time

Just curious what the average time it takes for your GPS receivers to pickup signal and plot your location. I've been using this Rand Mcnally GPS in my system for the past 4 years and the pickup time's always been about 5 mins or so. I noticed that in my uncle's Acura TL, the pickup time is almost instant so I'm wondering if I should buy a new receiver or if it's the software I'm using.

The Acura (I know Lexus does for sure), might keep the GPS reciever powered at all times, once it's locked, it knows where it's at right away. The Lexus stuff uses g sensors & accelerometers as well (so when you go into a tunnel, the car's AVCLAN can still calculate where you are for the most part).

To answer your question, the deluo GPS takes from 45 seconds, to 2 minutes to lock. It might also be affected by where your receiver is placed, they sometimes don't like defroster lines, and definitely not metal objects (like your roof or trunklid). If you look at my other post, you can see how to keep the deluo powered at all times, so as long as you don't park in the garage, it should always keep track of where it is, ready for your GPS software to show you where you are.
