It did resume the connection with my serial GPS, which is cool! I think I'll get a serial GPS when I get the small mouse-like GPS for my computer instead of USB - just for the hibernate problems I'm always hearing about. I think I might be investing in GPSGate...

I still haven't had a chance to test it yet, I have a USB GPS mouse, which currently works using standby/hibernate (on it's own without any splitter sw) so fingers crossed GPSGate will work for me too, though from what you say it looks promising!

What kind of gps mouse do you use? I'm thinking of getting the i.Trek. Can anyone think of any reason I should get the USB instead of the serial?

I have a BU-303 (search GPS Mouse on ebay) for £25.

Do serial GPS' need a separate power supply? USB ones use the USB power

I'm about 99% sure that this one in question just gets power from teh serial port. Both connections have ways of getting power to a device... Just like a serial mouse...

I never saw any model numbers next to the GPS's that came up on eBay, but there are a LOT of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...700483443&rd=1

Is that the one you have?

The price is certainly right, and it's SiRFII/LP...

My USB GPS works with standby/hibernate, as in, I don't need to reconnect it or anything after hibernation.....It's more that the programs that use it stop working after hibernating, i.e. If I have Destinator open, hibernate and resume, sometimes it works and sometimes Destinator locks up. restart destinator and everythings ok again (no need to touch the GPS)

If hibernating when running NetStumbler, on resume it says says 'no gps' or something. Again restarting the program cures it.

Serial GPS units usually need to get their power from the PS2 port.

I have the same problem, with destinator. It also causes mediacar to lock up after a hibernation sometimes.
