    GPS Software

    Hey guys,

Wondering what software everyone is using for GPS Navigation? I'm from Canada so some of the options out there can be scratched off the list (if they don't do street level mapping in canada) however i'm interested to hear whats out there.

I have heard of the following:

MS products (no good as they do not provide voice directions)
    Destinator1
Copilot (just heard about this one..but i can't find a demo out there ANYWHERE!!) - anyone knwo where i can find one please email me or let me know!)
Street Atlas or something like that..doesn't support street level in canada...

    Anyway lets hear it tnx

Dont know much about the others but personally I am going to use CoPilot. CP is made by ALK(www.alk.com). There is no downloadable demo of it. Most people like CP except the price, $250 for software alone and $399 with their GPS mouse.

Yeah... CoPilot is freakin expensive. I use a DeLorme Earthmate with the bundled software, people have complained about it but it does the job for me. I like it, it was only $130. It will do voice but I don't know anything about Canada.

On this website there is not a demo version to try, but there is a demo 'movie' that can be played. Most certainly not the real thing, but gives you an idea of what you're getting.

Yah, I have to say the movie didn't get my credit card jumping out of my wallet. Still comparison shopping. Like some have said... not sure if I can lay down that much $$. That'll make me feel like I'm buying another Microsoft product.

what i would like to see...is someone take Microsoft Mappoint and create an application that will tie into its extensive database for mapping and 'points of interest.' I know media engine is working on something right now with mappoint...not sure what all it will include though...or how long we will have to wait for it.

You can get the NavStar component for Mappoint and I think its pretty good. It does voice commands, speed bearing... etc. Unfortunately you would need a bigger or screen or a higher resolution to use it. Under 640x480 on a 7" screen the menus are cut off at the bottom. Oh yeah, its $70 bucks.

I grabbed a demo of it about a month ago and was terribly dissipointed with the software. I found the interface was poorly designed, and the voices (windows voices) were terrible.

I didn't think it was too bad... although I haven't tried a lot of software. Thats one of the things that kind of ****es me off about GPS software. No one offers demos. It makes it hard to see whats out there and what works.
