    here is the correct link
    http://home.comcast.net/~acuratl2004...s/gpsthing.zip

I hacked that little program ages ago... i have something called gpsspeedo which looks really awesome.. i haven't tried running it yet.
    download here:
    http://zoran-horvat.de/private/CarPC/tmp/GPSspeedo.Zip

Edit the xml file with the correct port # of your GPS receiver.
And you also need to register the GPS.dll activex component.

You can download this freeware here to do that.

Delorme's website has a program in their downloads section that does everything but spit nickles. Gives you an on screen compass, speedo, tells you where the sun should be in the sky in relation to your car...etc etc...

I don't know if you can download it by itself. But I got it in the zip file when I downloaded the USB -> Serial driver for the Earthmate. So download thta, and see if it's in the zip file. I'm not on my home computer now so I can't tell you exactly what the program is called.

PM me as a reminder and I'll find an exact answer for you tonight. I think I could even just email you the program since it's freeware from the company web site anyway.

That's something I'd love to do with my in-progress car PC guide. Care to publish a dummies guide to getting that up and running cheaply and simply? I've been reading the forum and frankly ODB-II sounds like it's relatively complicated and not cheap to setup. GPS = free & simple!

OBD costs about $100 to set up.

I understand your point that you dont want to spend any more money i was just giving options

Was this a scientific experiment? Or an accident?

GPSSpeedo is cool....but if only it could talk to my Garmin GPS 18 USB. This GPS does not use NMEA. The Garmin USB GPS sdk is available at: http://www.gpscentral.ca/products/garmin/USBSDK.zip
How can I get hold of the author to try and convince him to add this functionality?

    Regards

It's a better investment to get a GPS that supports NMEA. That will open up the other 99% of GPS software that you currently cannot use.
