Destinator in my opinion is crap.
ROutis is cheap and looks good
Street Atlas has good detailed maps but again it's only ok
Copilot has it's own flaws to but in my opinion it's the best
    Mine needs to be updated.

    well
    - If I were approaching a highway which is say west and east, Copilot would tell me to take "Highway 287S" (south).?
    - Sometimes copilot would think I am on one street off say I was on 15th street, it would think I am on 16th street. But this one is very rare
    - Copilot doesn't always recognize every address (maybe 1 out of 10)

Again this is off my Copilot 2003 and I hope the Copilot Live 7 is better but who knows.
    Mine needs to be updated.

Oh and btw, destinator is for handhelds only but if you download the SDK for it you can run it on your carputer.

    Question

I'm looking for something that is quick to allow me to enter a destination, has a decent 3d/bird's eye view and/or decent voice prompts. Also, something that is good at re-routing.

Also, what is a good gps reciever?

    Thanks!

btw.. it's a p3-600, 256mb of ram. Either win2k or xp.. whichever will run the software better.[/QUOTE]

I haven't installed my desktop PC yet, but what about using the Microsoft Streets and Tips software (allready installed)
All I need to buy is a reciever?

Just for the record... kinda off the subject but really IS on the subject of that comment... by the rules of naming highways... you'll notice that even numbered highways are EAST-WEST highways, and odd numbered highways are NORTH-SOUTH highways... though they may go somewhat the other direction, they are still PRIMARILY in the direction by the rule... sooo... for Copilot to say that 287S (assuming it is 287 with an S added to the end), it is indeed a NORTH-SOUTH highway...

beyond that, I have been wondering the same thing... I plan to run GPS in my truck once I get a chance... and so I'm glad this thread came along. I didn't realize how many options there were... thanks for posing this question.

Yes, the USB to Serial drivers are on the CDs that came with the GPS. You can also download them freely from Delorme. They worked just fine for me though some have said they are a bit tempermental at times. The easiest thing to do is just build your own serial cable (~$5 in parts). If you don't have an available serial port, you can always get a USB->Serial adapter for ~$15. Using serial, I've never had a problem with the GPS.

My GPS is inside my dash and I get excellent reception. Sounds like yours might have been defective since your other GPS receiver worked fine. There are only a handful of GPS chip makers and probably not that many different antenna designs out there. I suspect most devices (particularly the cheap made for computer ones) are more alike than different.
