If the rubber material is that good, I guess you could remove the plastic housing before you dip. That should reduce signal degradation a little.

worked great... I hooked it up today and received 10 sats... It looks like the extra plastic didn't hurt my signal.. I will post a picture after work...

The TripNav is waterproof and works great. They are so inexpensive, you can throw it away and get another one if it dies on you.

Bottom line on interior mounted GPS units... poor reception. They work sometimes, but under anything other than ideal circumstances they perform poorly.

Remember the antenna needs a groundplane, so mount the thing on the biggest hunk of steel you car has that faces skyward.

The US DOT mandates that car roofs are steel. Personally I think this was to ensure that everyone has a good groundplane, but there are other theories...

If you want it to blend in and look pretty paint it to match. If you have a roof rack then you can mount it discretely without much problem...

Goodluck, hope it works out well... The rubberizing looks awsome! I want to rubberize my whole car!

Where in Lowes is it located? I searched my local lowes, but couldn't find it anywhere, and the employees were NO help.

NOOOOO doubt. I swear I honestly don't know how Lowe's stays in business around here. Their employees (in my two local area stores) generally don't care a bit about you. I actually had a guy once tell me he was coming right back to help me and walk down the aisle, take his apron off and walk right out to the parking lot, get in his car, and leave. Sickens me.

Anyway, this was just a reason to bump this thread, and get my Lowe's hatin' in at the same time. Are there any updates to this? Still working? Any pics or ideas on how to mount them once they're dipped?

If I'm not mistaken..it should be located in the paint aisle.
I just bought it a couple days ago at the local Lowes here in TX and it was with the paint cans.

I bought the plasti-dip thing the other day. It's $6.9x and is amazing. I did 4 coats on my earthmate w/out the (yellow+black) plastic housing. It is in the paint aisle, sitting next to spray paints behind the bars/grills (they are locked).

Could you give a little more detail. What is under the plastic housing? Is it just the circuit board underneath.
Can you please post a picture?
