As an update to this, I tried it over the weekend and it works beautifully. Took me two dips and then I painted it to match the color of my jeep, drilled the hole through the roof (gasp) and ran the cable. I get 9 or 10 sats locked within 3 seconds and it's worked beautifully, even in the heavy rain yesterday.

My GPS reciever(Earthmate) has been on my rear deck for 3 months now. It is in direct sunlight through the rear window and it gets pretty hot here in TX. Works perfect.Originally Posted by bigbertha

Back to topic for a moment. I have my earthmate in the front windscreen / windshield of my Jeep Liberty. I have absolutely no problem tracking. What is it that is causing people to want to put them on the outside in the first place?

Ya that might be a good idea to do it even if you have it on the inside of your car. do this to rid yourself of the bright yellow "steal me" piece of hardware sitting on your dash!Originally Posted by MoFo
just wondering, how are you routing the cable? did you drill a hole in the body or what?
any one tried mixing this to match the color of your car?
i just got both red ( very bright ) and black and am going to try and mix
to match the deep red of my van.
also has anyone done this to a 802.11x or to a xm antenna?
