purchase/make a serial cable for your earthmate or upgrade to WinXP.. Those are your only choices...

I posted about the USB with XP in that thread.

It worked! no blue screen when connecting to the com port while using Routis. Also, i locked onto sattelites insanely quick.

In case anyone still hasnt figured out how to install the Earthmate with serial drivers I'm going to explain here since the Delorme site leaves out a few steps:
    1) Install driver using USBEmate1.exe (http://www.delorme.com/support/gps/uemate005.asp). Select the second option that says you want to use it with non-Delorme software. EDIT: You may want to be sure and restart here

    2) Plug in Earthmate. Wait for windows to detect it.

    3) Go to Device Manager. The Earthmate should be under the 'Human Interface Devices' category. Right click on it and go to properties. (It should say delorme next to manufacturer: ).

    4) Click on Driver tab and click update driver. Select the second option 'Install from a list'. Then select 'Dont search. I will choose driver to install'. Now select the second driver that is displayed. It should be titled Delorme Serial drivers or something close to that. Click next and 'continue anyway' button. Edit: Might need a restart here

    5) Now open device manager and look under Com Ports to see which com port the earthmate was installed under.

    6) Load your mapping software and select the appropriate com port and then Bam! now you mean business.

Let me know if that helps or if i need to clear anything up.

thats a bummer. I was planning to run XP in the future, but thats a ways away, and I was hoping to familiarize myself with the program now. that really really is a big bummer.

Do my instructions not work for Win2kpro?
The earthmate should work with win2kpro and routis as long as your using the newest drivers (correct filename: USBEmate1.exe. not USBEmate_v2)

The usb to serial driver should work with Win2kPro. Earthmate is just a usb receiver. If the driver works, the receiver should works.

still working on it, but it doesnt look good. I cant use Xport because USB is equivalent to com5, which I cannot select as the hardware port (only com1 and com4) and I already use the serial out for the equilizer, so thats out.

im not giving up hope yet, but yeah, your directions to the letter definitely still cause me to BSOD out

that means your not using the newest drivers. I used to get the BSOD until this new driver was released.
