i have a cf gps receiver

hello guys, i'm kind of new to the carputer thing, and i was wondering if there is an adapter for my compact flash gps receiver to work in a computer. i was thinking of putting a shuttle in the trunk as the computer.

There are compact flash adapters for PC however they will not work in the trunk unless you got a saturn or a c5 vette, you may want to do some research on PCMCIA to USB adapters, but I think its going to cost you more than getting a different GPS receiver.

how come it doesn't work in the trunk? sorry if this is a stupid question.

I was about to ask the same thing, since I own a saturn. I don't see anything about my trunk that is comparable to the one on the vette mentioned, unless he is assuming that the saturn decklid is made of plastic instead of metal.... only the side panels are plastic, roof, hood, and decklid are all metal.

i drive an rsx, so that's a hatchback...but the back windows are tinted, so it wouldn't work?

if you have a PCMCIA slot in your comp, its easy. If its to become USB, then you better off selling the CF one and getting a GPS USB Mouse, you'll save.

it will work through tint, unless the tint is of the metallic variety

Wouldn't you have to have some type of virtual com port software for use with a usb to cf reader? since the apps using gps need to see a com port with incoming data.

is there free versions of this? or does each usb gps have its on proprietary software to acheive this>
