GPS - The last piece of my puzzle...

I've tried searching...no success, really. My GPS solution is the only item holding me back so help a bruddah out and give me some suggestions. I am leaning a bit towards Routis 2004.

    Cheers all!

I like routis because it is very very simple, looks great on a small screen.
routing works very very well, and wrong turns are automatically compensated for.
I have been in only one town where every route was bass ackwards, nothing was where it said it was, etc. one town (ventura, CA) that was 100% defunct.
And as defunct as that town was, every other town (including podunk and other supersmall towns) has been the opposite. just perfect.

I like the features of streetatlas much more. points of interest give me like an entire phonebook's worth of information. the options are staggering.
Unfortunately, its a bit difficult to see on a 7" screen.
Routing is pretty good, but not as good as routis.
wrong turns are less well compensated for.

All in all, I like running both because I can get in depth information about POI's form streetatlas if need be, but for actual GPS usage, I use routis.

they are the only programs I have used, other guys can tell you about their experiences with other programs.

and yes, the earthmate works great with routis. you jsut have to work a little harder during install to make it work. after that, you can plug itin and unplug it, hot or cold, all day long, and itll fire right on, every time.

i am running iGuidance which is pretty much the same as routis except for the fact that iGuidance is availible in an updated version while routis still is not.

My expierence with the software has been very positive. I have yet to encounter a bad map or totally bad rout. The maps are very easy to look at in the improved 3d mode in the updated version. I find the voice directions to be very easy to follow. All in all i can't say enough good things about it.

another real plus of this package is it is much less expensive than Destinator of CoPilot, which are the other frontrunners. There is a long thread running about iGuidance running right now that I'd suggest you read. I posted some screenshots and other into there.

As far as a GPS is concerned I am using the iTrek serial version and am very happy with it as well. I very rarely lose a lock.

i got both the software and the GPS together here

    Good luck
