Yes, the version is running in a pc also. In fact, the version is for pc, and you need to transfer it to the PDA if you have it. Mapsonic will start "Mapstore" witch runs the aplication in the pc.
So on, there is only one version for PC+PPC+Palm. I donīt know why the PC does not appear in the name.

I have a little addon to this.
since Navigator isn't really offering a good front-end for touchscreens i have asked directions ltd if and when they will be publishing a touchscreen friendly version for car pc's (this means a version "with some kind of interface which you can deal with by tapping a 640x480 pixel screen with your fingers, with
on-screen-keyboard for entering places and streets and such....") and i've got the folowing answer:

    Pascal,

Yes, there will be one later this year.

    Regards

    Tomas
sounds good i think ;-) especially because this application is dirt cheap, if you compare it to many of its compeditors.

so lets look forward to the touchscreen interface
    cheers

    and one from South Africa

    www.handymap.co.za

    and

    www.mobitrak.co.za

    Support for Southern Africa only

I assume this mapping tool is actually based on a GPS "engine" of some sort and I expect it to have commonality with an existing european or north american piece of software.

    This app uses .hmm file

I cannot see some one developing the entire engine etc locally in South Africa, let me know what I need to do to find out what its based on that way you can embed for one "engine" and it will work with multiple types if you follow my twisted logic

one of the most expensive out there i guess is simacar. it looks promising because they mention the carpc use on their homepage and tehy always show it in a 7" xenarc so it seems to be designet for it...

doesn't have 3d view and seems to be very expensive for what you get.
didn't find a demo version, but someone on this forum acutally resells it in the uk and he somewhere stated that he could send out demo versions if you pm'ed him.

the german webpage can be found here: http://www.simacar.de
(maps seem only to be available for europe)

What about voice instruction? To me that is one of the most important features. You don't want to be looking at a screen while driving.

I have used a past version Copilot but its navigation wasn't the best. How about the current version?

I wanted to revive this post as it seems to be the most comprehensive list of GPS software available. I got hold of Destinator from reading this, and then realised it was only for PocketPC...
So, can anyone update this list with 2005-2006 software thats suitable for PC?
