I recall reading about somebody that put theirs inside the dash where the radio was. I believe it was in a pontiac grand prix. Sorry no link.
Anyone have a receiver that is sensitive enough to work inside of glove box? I have a Delore Earthmate and it just doesn't get a good signal unless it's right underneath the windsheild.

the *only* method i know of being able to get the GPS to work in the glove box would to have a GPS that supports an external antenna (most of them are just a simple wire like for some FM/AM wires for stereos) and place the antenna around the windshield while the actual GPS unit is in the car hidden.
I have a Delore Earthmate also, and you will not be able to get away with that...it requires direct line of sight though a window to the sky above. :-( you get what you pay for!
search the GPS hardware section for a few proven GPS's that support external antennas.

Just about any GPS should work in the glovebox. The signal will be degraded but they should work ok as The GPS signal passes straight through plastic, GRP and glass. We tested a number of different GPS, the Haicom worked fine but the BU303 wasn't as good. In my RV the GPS is in the overhead locker and in the car I leave it in the glovebox.

The real problem is not how much plastic is arond the receiver, but how far you put it in depth on your car: the car body act as shield on signal. The signal level when moving the unit is car dependent. The car body, car ground and receiver ground are the same so placing the unit inside the glove box is like putting an antenna inside its own ground (car body)........
The external antenna is the only good solution I see if you can't get a fix. If you'll succed I think taht on critical signal areas you'll lose your fix too.
Cheers

you can buy GPS receiver with Xtrac2 chipset. They could even lock a signal 5 feet inside a building under a garbage bin. I'm pretty sure it can easily get a lock inside a glovebox
