    Radar and GPS

Is there anyway to encorporate a radar detector with GPS software, so when the detector picks up a signal, the software saves the GPS location and pin points it on a map for later use (to identify radar traps maybe?)

    already thought about this.
When I get a radar detector I will be working on it. But I need a radar dectector with LED's that I can read voltages off for distance and type of signal detected then make mappoint put a drawing on where I think it is, and maybe a speach engine or something.
Im not doing it any time soon, have other stuff to work on, but I thought this would be cool.
Or even just an application that puts a big *** warning on the screen and makes the sound of police sirens would work for me :-P

Seeing how random spots could be for cops to sit at, mapping locations might not be very useful. If you have the detector, then you have all the warning you need about where the police are watching, right?

It would be an interesting exercise to collect information about where speed traps are commonly setup and then post them to a server somewhere for other people to download. The collected data might begin to show patterns of where the police like to hide when they time cars. When wireless internet access becomes more prevalent, these computers could be posting radar results immediately, while other computers pull down the results as their respective cars travel down the road. It's the next incarnation (pun intended) of P2P computing.

There are several forums online that discuss where common speed traps exist on popular highways. This could automate that process. Common speed traps would just show up on your GPS map.

From my experience the police may not be in the exact same spot but they will generally set up in near by areas. It would help if it could be done without a whole bunch of effort. Don't know if it'd be worth it outside of that though.

great idea and very cool because cops always sit in the same spots around where i live. and say you do map these points could you make it so the radar detector looks for them next time(or detects in that spcific direction)
i could see this happening and some how being outlawed becasue cops are to slow and stupid to change there sitting areas, but very nice therory

How about a warning that came up on mappoint with a circle depending on how far away they were. I know that some have the 100yd 50yr making a circle around your currnet position would be pretty neat, especially if it flashed blue or something. Its a pretty neat Idea but I have other things to doo that have more need.
