    BU303 red light

I just bought a BU303 USB GPS Receiver off Ebay, and it works great.

Only problem, it has a red light on the side of it, which stays ON when the pc is OFF. I am worried about it draining my battery when i have the carputer off or in hibernate.

Does anyone have any comments on this, or a solution?

My carputer is a EPIA M10000, in a Morex 2677 Case with Morex 80w car power kit.

I don't see how it can have power when the PC is off.
Maybe it's just the internal capacitor. How long does it stay on for?

dude, this is because your mobo / powersupply are still supplying the 5v to usb devices as per the ATX specification.

There are a couple of threads to use a relay to kill the power to the power supply to prevent the drain, there is another way, havent tried it myself but apparently in xp, the properties of the device can be changed to stop it working on power off, i am going to try this this afternoon, as my powermate always glows !

I have the same problem, but I'm sure your battery will not be drained just because of this little led. I have it installed for 3 months now, and I still haven't had any electrical problems.

Get yourself a Carnetix CNX-p1260 or the new P1280 when it's available. This shutdown controller will work perfectly with your Morex case/Power supply combo. It will shut off power to the pc completely so no devices will have power.

Thanks guys for all your help!

Have decided to see how it goes just leaving it on, as said above, probably not enough to drain the battery.

If i do have power problems, the carnetix sounds like the solution.

    Thanks again

It isn't going to drain your battery. You have absolutely nothing to be worried about. That is completely normal.
