Mine is installed as prolific and it works fine......

Perhaps it is time to consider the GPS receiver is faulty?
    Fails once it gets warm?

Yes, that might be the case.
I've read on the web somewhere that there is a whole batch of these faulty units floating around.. But the page was describing a trick how to go around it.. google it.. I was considering buying mine from the net/ebay as well but this scared me away..

ive got the same issue, loses signal fairly frequently and occassionally destinator says "GPS not found".

I wonder if the people who are playing around with the Destinator SDK can get it to auto re-enable/reconnect the GPS if it detects it as 'GPS not found'. I have to manually click through (in destinator) and enable it at the moment which is hard to do while driving

I acctually find using this in the Destinator SDK pc program that is avalible atm,. I cannot manually setup the GPS unit, I have to use the "Find GPS" button instead...

hmm but my prob extends to even the GPS info utility

    im wondering...
could it be coz im running it off USB 1.1

and it possibly needs USB 2 ports?

    usb speed

usb 1.1 should be fine, im running a bu-303 on an old laptop P2, and it only has usb 1.1, and it is fine. most usb 2.0 peripherals are backwards compatible anyways (unless they require the faster transfer rate).

if you're running it thru a usb hub, power can be a problem, it may not be supplying enough voltage/current to power the unit, which needs a slot, with full 3.3 or 5v and all available current too itself (i think usb uses around 500ma current, not 100% on that tho).

perhaps the unit or youir usb port is faulty?

What i have found is that if i uninstall and reinstall the device (ie. the usb to comp port). The device is found on both the info application and on destinator.

But if i leave it for say 10minutes
i start gettin "no device" and "gps not found"

though ive got a lock, coz my light is flashing away even though the 'gps is not found'
I believe the flashing light means that there is NO lock. Solid light indicates a satellite lock. Am I wrong on that?

    sorry, wrong

    yep, you're wrong, sorry.

a blinking/flashing light means the unit has booted, and is locked to satellites. a solid red light means the unit is either booting, or not locked.

I beleive the usb spec is 500mA maximum per port supplied.
So you can run 1 500mA device or upto 5 100mA devices via a passive hub for example.

If you have a powered hub then the 500mA rating applies to each port again.

Out of interest, anyone know the power requirements for the BU-303?
