Unhappy Futher probs with my BU-303 install

I had a prob earlier with gettin a lock, and thats resolved (sorta)

but now im trying to use some software (destinator 3 actually)

and i always seem to get 'GPS not found'. Yet, I can see the red light on (no lock). its set to the right com port, being com port 3

O and when i use the GPS info utility to select Waas, it never stays checked after i reopen the program

    How do i fix?

Im using XP, no SPs.... (also tried on windows 2000)

    Thanks for the help guys

Try putting it ontop of a metal object etc. i dont know how u can improve it besides tin foil???

Try changing the com port in device properties as u could have a conflicting port being used.

Have u tryed doing the auto search in destinator should still be in d3.1 SDK

O and when i use the GPS info utility to select Waas, it never stays checked after i reopen the program
It's not ment to stay ticked after you click it WASS is used if the GPS supports it so destinator will use WASS if the gps supports that feature u dont turn it on or off.

Hope this has helped you some bit

I received my BU-303 today and it worked out of the box
You probably didn't need to hear that though.

have you installed and used the GPS software that came on the install CD?

When I ran mine it found the receiver on com3 and it showed all the data coming in and a graphical display of the strength & number of the satellites.

I then installed D3 - see other thread in the gps section, and ran the GPS wizard fine.

My BU-303 will lock on when i sit it on the window cill. ....Just.

I assume the receiver has installed OK? I did remove and replace it and at one point XP installed it as a ball point mouse You can check it in Device Manager, it should appear as another com port - not as a GPS receiver, strangely

    Best of luck
    Kevin

I had this unit moan with destinator, because I was trying to manually select the port, even though I was using the correct one (as all other programs do) it wanted to have another port.
Try seeing if you can get a connection with GPS Info or something small like that

When I was using destinator, I got problems sometimes with it not finding the GPS. You just have to go to settings and tell it to find the GPS, and it will say GPS found and work again like normal. Not a long-term fix, but it works and only takes like 10 seconds.

Hey guys thanks for the replies

What i have found is that if i uninstall and reinstall the device (ie. the usb to comp port). The device is found on both the info application and on destinator.

But if i leave it for say 10minutes
i start gettin "no device" and "gps not found"

though ive got a lock, coz my light is flashing away even though the 'gps is not found'

    *bump

any other suggestions guys? this is ****in me off

could this be a driver issue?

and just to check, wen windows finds a device, it asks for the driver, so i point it to the usb-comport driver. it takes it and is quite happy.
now is this meant to be the only thing installed? meaning, there is no actual 'usb device' installed?

**** **** ****, im just hoping its not the actual gps mouse which is faulty, and that i can find a solution to this problem
tis the only thing stopping me from purchasing the rest of the stuff for the carpc and puttin it in!

Did you happen change the USB port? I did that and my GPS did not show up no matter what I did.

Is the GPS showing up in the hardware manager?

Mine appears as a USB to Com Port only, in the Ports area of device manager.

    Couple of quick points,
Is the 303 pluged directly into the mobo USB port or is it on a long extension cable?
If it is, try it direct to the mobo.
You may not get sat lock but you will get destinator reporting that no sats available. See if it survives the '10 minute' test.

Also do you have anything else pluged into the USB ports? If so remove them for a while and test it solo. May be a maximum current issue...

When it disappears after 10 mins, does the GPS application that came with the 303 see it or is that unable to find it also?

Yep ive switched the ports around to test them aaall

uhm, nope its connected directly to the mobo
there are no other usb devices in at the moment, except for a usb keyboard and mouse that have a usb-ps2 adapter on them. so nothing else directly plugged into the usb ports

'Prolific USB to COM' shows up in device manager

in regards to the device being lost in destinator, it is usually also lost in the 303 GPS info application. Sometimes it says 'no gps receivor', but most of the time its a 'no device'.

    thanks guys, tis appreciated!

im wondering if its something to do with the fact that my driver gets installed as 'prolific'
