the only thing I think would be worth doing would be, if you are writing your own GPS application (or D3 interface, or a 'third GPS com port device') would be to monitor both, and output the reading of the one with the best lock - and if the other one goes tit's up, sending the required reset commands.

Otherwise it's a lot of work for not much improvement

What would make a difference is putting one at the windshield and another at the back window. That way, the complete sky would be "visible" and locks would be to different sats.

You are better off buying an external antenna (if your GPS have the connector for it) :

Placing 2 GPS one at the back and at the front will only give you like the average position in the middle. If the signal are weak in the area both GPS wont be accurate anyway.

Its probably worth a try if you got access to 2 GPS and the program to average out the position.

You might take a page from aircraft navigation systems, they will often use 3 sensors.

If all closely agree, great, average the results.

If 2 closely agree, and one is having a bad moment and thinks youre in Buffalo, then disregard the bad sensor input.

May do away with the annoying display that you're off roading as you head down the interstate?

Having multiple GPS receiver is beneficial but I "think" the importance goes in this order :

Have a better receptions, the dead reckoning and then multiple receiver. Whats the point in having 10 receiver inside the car when non of them can give direction under a carpark, city etc?

@ Confused, any luck on your experiments?

    IMHO,
    1. good receiption (quality ant& amp)
    2. Gyro for dead reconing through short periods of GPS sig.loss
    3. Good map software(quick sample times) that's quick to react to missed turns

After that, I'm not certain the built-in inaccuracy for 'comercial' GPS will ever be overcome by multiple antennas.

Millitary GPS has greater accuracy..but that technology isn't publicly available.

Sounds like the most expensive way to roughly calculate the length of your vehicle I've come across
