I have the bu-303 and first mounted under the windshield on the dash (permanently mounted it actually...ended up a nice hole for center channel) at first it would lock then lose it. Then it wouldn't lock at all. I then moved it to under the sunroof and it works perfectly.

Explanation: some windshields, windows, and window tint manufacturers use high metal content materials...reducing satellite reception

I have a different theory to present.
Many people claim magical substance in window reduce satellite reception and report they get better signal after placing GSP on outside. That's because Lilliput is not interfering when the receiver is placed outside not because of tint or window.
I know this from my experience because when I'm using a laptop, GPS locks fine even though the receiver is in the very same position. When I was bench testing Liliput in my room, my color TV about 4feet away from lilliput (that's longer than the distance between Lilliput and GPS receiver on dash) shows funky color distortion and noise.

You might want to change your refresh rating next time your GPS wouldn't lock.

GPS signals work similiar too a flashlight. A GPS reciever can attain a signal if you can shine a flashlight on it and see light on the reciever.

The flashlight in this case is actually the satellite and since you will never be able to tell where the "light" is comming from (because satellites take different courses as they orbit around the earth), in the windshield in some vehicles is a bad place, because at some angles the roof will actually be blocking the light.

It all comes down to this:Placing your gps reciever all depends on the type of vehicle you have. The shape of the vehicle directly, can effect how well the reciever picks up a signal. An optimal solution is to place the reciever in the middle of the roof (thats where an engineer would tell you to place it)

There are however some alternative solutions, if your car is newer and has the option for Navigation. check out wher ethey would put the gps reciever

I would tell everyone who has had any problem with their gps to do the sirf demo program. I ALWAYS have a link now. Even in my house.
