    GPS dropouts caused by xenarc?

    Hi all,

I have searched and searched, but cannot find the exact answer to my dilema, so if someone can point me in the right direction, i would really appreciate it -

I have a DWW gain/xenarc screen, and have noticed that when my BU303 GPS module is near the screen, it causes dropouts (i can test this theory, because when i run the GPS mobule on the laptop without a gain xenarc it works fine sitting on the dash of my car, when i hookup the xenarc, it will drop out intermittantly, and when it does dropout, if i turn off the xenarc, it the GPS will get its signal back instantly).

any ideas on how i can shield my GPS module from the xenarc's screen interferance? also - i read a thread about lilliputs doing this, is it common for a xenarc to do the same? (i cant find the original threads, sorry)

much oblidged to all who can help.

    tried

tried too, as much as i can, i am limited to where i can put the GPS mobule, it needs to see the sky blah blah blah, i have no rear parcel shelf, so its got too be on the dash somewhere, but because the xenarc is right in the middle of the dash, it effects the entire dash area...

    12v phiong regulated power supply

12v phiong regulated power supply, which lives in the rear of the vehicle. reason being is that the digitalWW indash version does not come with a power supply of its own.

Well, I personally haven't noticed a drop out near the Xenarc screen, but then again, the closest I ever had my receiver was about 1.5 Feet with an Earthmate. Being your setup is like that, you may wanna look into getting a Roof mountable Receiver or Antenna. This will give you the best possible scenario for satelite coverage.

Forgot to add that you can possibly shield any Xenarc interference by using a STEEL plate between the Xenarc and the GPS receiver. But remember, this plate can also block the GPS signal if you block the line of sight with this plate.

I'm pretty new to this whole thing, but I thought I'd mention that I have the same problem with my setup as well, though I am using a Lilliput. It can be totally isolated to the monitor and I've tried relocating the GPS <pharos 360> as far away as possible, including the other end of the car. The only success I found was removing it from the inside of the car and holding it on top of the roof. This test was done several ways, including nothing at all attached to the lilliput, but simply powered on while running the GPS from the tablet pc, not otherwise connected to anything. Any info on this would be a good thing.

This happened once to me with my lilliput. I have my GPS mounted to the top of the dash so that I can still use it with out the computer and have my LCD screen mounted to the front of the dash. I repositioned the location of the screen a bit and haven't had a problem with it since. It is still only at most a foot apart from each other. I think it has something to do with the high voltage inverter for the CCFL backlighting causing interference with the GPS. All I can suggest is to just find a spot where your GPS works and keep the cables for each separate.

Zowie!! So THAT'S what's wrong with my GPS?!

I recently installed a Xenarc to replace my old screen. The GPS is about a foot away from the screen, on the dash. Ever since I got the new system up and running, the GPS reception has been spotty. It drops satellites, loses it's lock and then regains it but always seems to struggle to keep track. I couldn't figure out what the hell was wrong with it.

This also explains why it worked perfectly on the back shelf of the car when I tested it with a laptop in the front seat and then it worked like ***** when I installed the computer directly underneath it. Never did figure that one out...until NOW.

I'll say it for everyone: I'm a moron. Thanks for solving the problem for me, guys!
