I have mine on the dash
ProjectEZP.com – next generation police speedtrap locator. Free database for your GPS system (includes US/Canada).
I would put it as close to the windshield as possible so it can catch more sat signals from the sky without the car roof blocking them.
Shuttle xPC w/ Athlon 2400+

PAC Audio AUX input module
Opus 150W PS
iGuidance usb GPS
RF keyboard/mouse

(wow, looking at that pic hurts my eyes!)
FWIW, I've put mine on top of my roll bar, nestled as low as possible (Jeep Wrangler). The soft top is of course no impediment to reception, and I doubt the none-too-thick fiberglass hard top is, either.
Yeah, it's a crappy picture - sorry!
I'm thinking the flat location in the crappy picture above should be ok for visibility. Further forward would probably be better but it'll already be fairly close to as far forward as it can go and I want it to look 'neat'.

Just a tip for compressing pictures..
JPG's for photos
GIF's for anything with large areas of solid colour or small delicate detail (like text or thin lines)
my tip: put it as much away from display as you can untill you plan to shield your panel well.
whys that? interference from the LCD?....i wouldnt think it would put off too much.
PC Components:
Lilliput; XPC/FLEX mobo; 1.7 ghz P4 Mobile;512 DDR; 160 gb HDD; opus 150; slot usb dvd-rw
My work log
