Any suggestions? Am I best oft mounting it horizontal on thedash or roughly parallel to the windscreen on the front side of the monitor housing I'll shortly be making?

I would put it as close to the windshield as possible so it can catch more sat signals from the sky without the car roof blocking them.

(wow, looking at that pic hurts my eyes!)

FWIW, I've put mine on top of my roll bar, nestled as low as possible (Jeep Wrangler). The soft top is of course no impediment to reception, and I doubt the none-too-thick fiberglass hard top is, either.

    Yeah, it's a crappy picture - sorry!

I'm thinking the flat location in the crappy picture above should be ok for visibility. Further forward would probably be better but it'll already be fairly close to as far forward as it can go and I want it to look 'neat' .

Just a tip for compressing pictures..

    JPG's for photos
GIF's for anything with large areas of solid colour or small delicate detail (like text or thin lines)

My LCD puts out enough interference to pretty much jam my radio reception. Not that I'd listen to *****ty radio anyway!
