ahh sweet. cheers geezer. JCD spoke to u-blox today and the module dancahaven has might go upto 8hz with new firmware! not that 8hz is needed. I am tempted by dead reckoning though for the extra £70.Originally Posted by Confused

in a way I hope not so I have no justification for the 8hz module and can stick with the 1Hz DR one. I am trying to work out if DR will be useful. The reciever is already pretty good for low signal behaviour and even has 16 channels for when it has good coverage! 34 second cold start is nice too!

I used GPSGate to play back NMEA at everything upto 60x, and it was still only 1hz on screen, sadly.Originally Posted by Confused
I intended to check how often it's actually sending the info to destinator (ie is it still sending at 1hz or 60hz), which i will bother to at some point

Gah being in the middle of a building, in a lead-lined room REALLY doesn't help for trying out GPS stuff.
I'm going to record my drive home and hopefully I'll have some useful data, as the logs I thought I had...I don't have any more!

is this anygood? http://www.tycoelectronics.com/gps/software.asp
I think it only records not plays back but I am in work so can't play with it.
Looks like a nice program to me if you just want to see your position. If you want to test out a GPS receiver at faster speeds I'll modify mine to do it.Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey

cool. I have just spend 2 hours chatting to some lecturers in Avionics. They hadn't looked at any DR systems but we did have a chat about differential GPS. I was looking at a few GPS modules they had built up from recievers.
The differential would be nice to implement. Shoudlnt be too hard but I do like the DR system. Especialyl in town and it is easy to implement as the PC doesnt even know its there. They were suprised when I told them the device had the inertial filter built in.
Have a look at GPSGate from www.franson.biz, it has a 30 day trial and uses standard NMEA logs which it can record and playback. I use it so much I have it running permanently on my home AND work machine replaying a single log for whenever I need to test somethingOriginally Posted by Scouse Monkey

Cool. Will keep in in mind (and probably ask for a NMEA log at some point!!!) - I was thinking of borrowing a GPS module and doing some testing aorund bristol with it to see what kind of scatter i get.
The differential would be nice to addon too. Although the at Uni lecturer was saying that WAAS is now used over here.
There's a good overview I read today of what's in use where and what's planned for the future in this PDF:Originally Posted by Scouse Monkey
