Accuracy of Rikaline 6010 (or is it iGuidance?)

I recieved my Rikaline 6010 from eBay today, and have been playing around with it (using my laptop for now).

    Im using iGuidance 2.0

I'm not experienced at all with GPS technology, so I don't know if this is normal: seems like accuracy on main roads (interstates, etc.) is dead on -- very cool. On secondary roads (like the roads in my subdivision, and my neighboring subdivision too) the icon is offset from the main road substantially. iGuiadance thinks I am offroad! I would say it is off by 200-400 feet or so. The offset is always to a 'side', so it appears I am not even on the correct road (!)

Is this normal? This would certainly seem unusable for regular driving (unless on a main road, duh!)

    Thanks for any pointers.

    That's not normal - i.e. it should be dead-on

How many satellites do you show and how many is it connected to (i.e. if you go to the GPS status in iGuidance, it will show something like 5/9 or maybe 9/12 or something liek that depending on where you are). If you are not "seeing" enough satellites like just 1 or 2, then this may be the reason - I am speculating...

You may check the software that came with your GPS receiver if it has settings that would allow you to change Map Datum. The setting should be set to WGS84.

Forgot to mention that. It was typically showing 5/9 satellites.

I'm guessing the issues here is either one of two:
    1) iGuidance maps for my region is not accurate, or
    2) Receiver is not working properly (I doubt this is the issue, since it works perfectly on main roads)

Could it be that the mpas for my region are not accurate placed? (roads are offset, etc.?)

    Hi Marvin.

The 6010 only comes with a driver. As far as I could tell, there was no way to tweak this unit. Maybe I'm wrong... does anyone know if the 6010 can be 'tweaked' or configured?

ALso, my 6010 included a CD, but this did not have any sort of diagnostic tool

I keep on hearing about GPSinfo.exe. I googled for it, but does not seem to be a freely available tool.
Any other tools that could help me diagnose the problem?

    Thanks!

the drier is all you should really need. its the prolific usb to serial. it just creates a vitrual com port so it can stream the data. as for the maps...they could be off. try and get your hands on 2.1. they have updated maps

So, it *is* possible that the maps are off by a few hundred feet? I hope that's all it is, as I don't want to have to return the Rikaline receiver

Here is a screenshot of what I see when I stop at an intersection in a smaller subdivision. As you can see it is offset by a few hundred feet. Is this something that needs to be calibrated? Seems to work OK in the main roads, but offset in secondary roads...

    Update

I 'geocoded' my street address using an online service, and the Longitude/Latitude values yielded through geocoding are DIFFERENT than the ones yielded by the GPS using iG. It appears that the geocoded values are correct, because when I input those in iG, it hones in on my address in the map.

I think the natural conclusion here is that the GPS receiver is not giving me an accurate reading at all. Is this conclusion correct?

Can something be wrong with it? Any way to 'calibrate' it?
