Immidiatly after you made the turn she said "follow this road for xxx miles, then turn right" so you instantly new wich lane you needed to be in.
Destinator gets quite annoying with it's fixed 3km, 500m, 200m, turn now warnings.
Alturion seemed much more "relaxed" and yet more informative.

Maximus - I'm trying to learn VB at the mo as I want to make an iterface ( if I ever get time )... do you think its doable with the current SDK ? Just the basics really..

The biggest problem I saee with the SDK is the lack of a useful search function. The SDK implementation will return only 1 result and a partial match does not include lat and long; without these, you cannot add the lcoation as a waypoint so you can't route with it. What you need is either to be able to click on the map and get that as a geographical position, or have the SDK return a list of possible locations and allow you to choose one of these. Neither is possible in the current SDK.

Also, there is no call-back which would tell you that it is about to announce a direction. This is necessary to allow you to mute the MP3 playback.

I think the screen-shots shown earlier in this thread are from the PPC version, despite landscape mode. You can use some PPCs landscape now. the PC version looks quite different - and not at all touchscreen-friendly IMO.

I'm waiting (for 10 days now) for a response from Alturioin support on these questions.

Well, you can get it to embedd and hide all the menues.
But since you can't (like Mike said) get information about cities/streets without the user entering them manually and then check if it's valid or not the whole frontend/embedding idea is useless (more or less anyway).

I still think the guy who wrote the routing part of the software was drunk when he did it.
A 950km drive that I know takes about 11-12 hours to do (with lunch stop) is claimed to take 16 hours, even though it follows the same route I normally drive.

A short 45km drive from where I live to another city that usually takes around 45 minutes to drive gave me all sorts of options.
Worst one was a 85km drive through another large city, total time 2 hours 50 minutes.
Another option was a 1 hour drive using back roads.
No matter what options I selected I couldn't get it to choose the "correct" routing.
But when I selected a waypoint and thereby forcing it to use the correct route it calculated the correct distance and driving time, 45km's and 50 minutes.
This is both the shortest and the fastest route.

In some sections it claims that a couple of km's would take 45 minutes to drive, even though it's got a speed limit of min. 60mph (100km/h),
so I really don't know what kind of info they got.

Right now it's a dead end, it's not good enough as is ( IMHO ) to buy and without buying it I wont get access to the updates that hopefully would prove it worth actually buying.

Thanks for the updates. I managed to get it to embed within VB6 from your source code and cured the programming crashing on exiting - but i couldn't manage to stop vb6 from crashing when adding a destination using the sdk.

I have also emailed alturion and filled in the beta registration but have not got anywhere. I don't think they see the potential they could have here.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. Back to Destinator
