If google wants to make a buck, they can release a standalone version with all the maps available offline. I bet it would take several gigabytes just to install maps for one state.

Yeah, I signed up for plus thinking that it would work w/ real time gps. But it doesnt it only allows to download POI's and stuff like that from a handheld unit to the program.... Unless I couldn't figure it out, I don't think it worked. So far, I'm $20 down.
