Someone have compared the Axiom whit an USB receiver? It's a my problem or it's a Axiom Specification?

    Thanks!
Same here, the Axiom just not locking the satellites at all. I connect it to com 2 in the motherboard, is that correct? Also, I didn't connect the pin 10 to the ground.

    Hi,
my problem was in antenna connector, now the Axiom work very well, the only problem is the cold start, about 15, 20 min. but this problem is easy to resolv, is sufficent to leave the +5v and antenna power always connect.

You must connect the pin 10 to ground and the Com2 is ok to work

    Bye.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try to that. How did you get the +5V antenna always connect? "Pin 3, VBAT is not required but highly desirable to connect. If this pin is connected, the receiver will do a warm start and acquire satellite signals very quickly." Do you know how to connect the pin 3 VBAT?

I've connect the +Vbat at pin 3 of axiom, and -Vbat at GND (pin 11 or later there is one, check first).

The always on +5volt is because this module more time is fed more satellites it fixes.

Here is the Connections to the PC:

    PC > GPS

    +5 > Pin 1
    +5 > Pin 2
    GND > Pin 10

    Com2:
    Pin2 > Pin 11
    Pin3 > Pin 12
    Pin5 > Pin 13

    Thats it.
The board is small enought to fit in most cases without issue. I connected to the Com2 header on the VIA MII10000

The only thing that poped up when I booted the PC was the GPS coming up as a serial mouse.

The board is a great buy. If you want a GPS and don't need to move it from PC to PC this is what I feel would be a great solution at a cheep price.

THe UBLOX or PC-11 are also great choices.

BTW: I got the Active antenna from www.mobilegpsonline.com
I finally got around to using this receiver and cannot get anything to work. i also dont have the CD any longer.. so i dont have the test utility program.

Im curious... do you have to connect the Pin5 on the Com2 to Pin13 on the unit? I use pin 13 (and the gnd side of the battery) and connect it to - on the power supply. i am not getting anything from this...

hello chris i have this reciever connected to my carputer
the instructions above are correct..I think the problem could be that you dont have the compass( cd software that came with it..) by default this gps reciever is set to sirf mode( the software lets you switch it to nmea which is what iguidance is looking for.)
also make sure you set the comport to 4800 as no other comport speed settings will work.

    maybe this will help

thanks for the reply. i thought noone would since the original post was so old. Any idea on where i can get the files from the CD? i looked everywhere... cant find it.

also, thanks for the tip on the 4800 speed... i had the ports set to 9600.

i ordered the holux gpslim236 as an alternative. works USB, bluetooth and has the ability for an external antenna.

I use the SIRF Demo software to change the modes and test the unit. http://www.sirf.com/free_demo.html
