Before you RMA that EPIA, try install Xport3 to see if It make any different. Doesn't hurt or cost to try.
Some magics may happen. You know

Doesn't matter, Logic Supply won't RMA it. Or rather, they will, but they will only "test" it and send it back to me if it passes.

What is XPort3 going to do for me?

Is there anything that will write data to a "virtual" com port? I want to play back a GPS log without even touching the serial port, although I doubt it will make any ******* difference.

    So ****ed.

That is what Xport3 does for you.
For long: It a virtual serial port dupplicator (so call it). From a GPS serial port (real or virtual), you can create more than 1 ports to run several apps. Also can create logs to play back.

Back in the days when Earthmate USB GPS driver has problem with Routis. Whenever Routis connect to the GPS, Windows die paintfully (BSOD). Virtual COM port replicator comes to recue. Xport getting better since.

Here's the latest on this story. I am so far beyond ****ed its not even funny.

Last night I reinstalled Windows. Completely different Windows this time, XP OEM (no SP). Installed drivers etc etc and iGuidance. Plugged in my handheld Garmin GPS, and set it on the windowsill. With a 3-4 satellite lock, I fired up iGuidance and it worked great. 3D mode even. The map even moved a tiny bit as the weak GPS lock fluctuated. Here I am thinking I've finally licked it, and it was a driver issue with XP SP2.

I take the machine out to my truck this morning, and install it. Drive off, fire up iGuidance. Crash.

What's different? GPS is Motorola OEM module, and full satellite lock.

I've already tried the Garmin in the car, same crashes.

The only thing left is the full lock vs. 2D lock.

I can not ******* believe this.

I know, but my point being, I'm not buying software that doesn't work.

New development: related to a thread about iGuidance "showing" less sats than MM. My Garmin shows "Ready to Navigate (full lock) and 4-5 birds, where iGuidance shows 2-3 and 2D lock. I am convinced iGuidance handles NMEA strangely.

Obviously it works fine for a lot of people, or I wouldn't have this problem. But thanks for the really helpful, insightful input.
