Logicsupply sells the BU-353. I just bought a BR-355 from buygpsnow.com. What's the difference? I can't figure one out based on the GlobalSat spec sheets for the two, other than the 353 seems to have USB natively, and the 355 supports multiple connection types by using different adaptors.
The only difference is the connection type.

Both work great. You might want to use serial if you plan on putting your pc into hibernate and free up a USB port. Other than that...it's both equally great.
...You mean PS2 ? ...because you said SERIAL.
Or you talk about using a usb/rs-232 serial converter (or a ps2/rs-232 serial converter) to connect to the serial port and free a usb connector ?
If it works, i already thought about it and would plan to use the rs-232 port to connect the touchscreen via a usb/rs-232 converter... to avoid problems with touchscreen when coming out of hibernation and connect the ps2 gps version of the receiver to the keyb/mouse connector of the laptop... I guess it could be more important to not lose the touchscreen than the gps receiver...
What do you think about ?
BTW, i contacted cartft to ask what's the diffrence with the Globalsat and the Navilock products and they said it was exactly the same...
****. Are there problems with USB and hibernating a PC? In Windows? Actually come to think of it, my touch screen is USB and I hibernate when shutting off the car, and it works fine.

Hmm USB doesn't *have* to be a hibernation problem, it's just more prone to hibernation problems. With my laptop hibernation was okay, working *most* of the time.. With the CarPC the hibernation is fully reliable so far.
...it was only part of my question to DK888, in fact it's not needed to use a rs-232 converter for the 355 because it can use directly the ps2 connector where hibernation problems are not involved...
What do you mean exactly by using a "Y" cable ? ...that the rs-232 port alone doesn't provide enough power for the receiver to work ? ...is it valid also for the 353 ?
So, in this case, to power the receiver it would also be needed to use a "Y" usb cable ?
-- the 355 was designed with 'adaptation' in mind. a wide range of adapters are available for the 355.

not that you couldn't run 'a' GPS off the PS2 port, you'd definately require drivers.
Running the 355 off RS232 means no hibernation issues ever, and no drivers req'd.
I, myself, wasn't aware that the 355 req'd two precious ports on the back of my Car•PC but the merits of the 355 are worth the price.
