Could be interference or the fact that you don't give it enough time to get its first locks (cold start), which can take some time...
I need some help with a Garmin GPS25-HVS unit. It can't seem to get a fix on any satelites. I downloaded and tested with VisualGPS to see what the unit was sending for NMEA sentences, and it appears that it is recieving good signals on all satelites, and typically get strong signals on at least 4 or 5. I'm using the recommended Garmin GA-27 antenna.
I messed with a large variety of settings to see if I could get it to work, but nothing seemed to help. I know both of my antennas are good, becuase they work on my GPS IV+, which locks on to the satelites in just a few seconds. My only thought on this is that for now I don't have it in any type of shielded enclosure, and it's attached ot the side of the car computer with double-stick tape (right next to the hard drive, and the power supply). I'm wondering if it could be picking up noise from the computer? I'm hoping to test that tonight.
Any one else have any suggestions?
Thanks for the quick reply! I did attempt that. I let it go "untouched" for a good 30 minutes with no luck. Is that long enough?
Sigh, as usual, I always seem to solve these problems shortly after I post about them. Of course, that's after 5 hours on Saturday, and two trips to the store. Turns out I hooked it up to the +5v power bus instead of the +12v. So, it was working... just not very well. Switched the wires around, and by the time the computer came up it already had a position. Hope this at least will help someone else out!
Thanks for your help any how!
