I have to agree that this boards quickness to bite noobs heads off for asking a question is lame.

Firstly a lot of the info on the board is out of date and without trawling through or lurking for a long time it is hard to see which is current.

Secondly searching takes ages because there is a huge noise to information ratio, mostly with people flaming each other.

Thirdly the is no simple 'where to start' thread or simple rundowns of current options. If people kept the existing one simple and up to date and gave people a better place to start, so they could focus on the harder questions rather than these silly easy ones, then we would get a lot less noobs and the experienced people would be in a lot better position to complain.

Yes it has all been covered before but unless you were around at the time and paying attention it is very hard to find something unless you know a bit about it already.

Have you seen the FAQ Emporium?

Dude, this isn't elementary school. You have to do a little bit of research. Put forth a little effort and you'll receive great rewards. My suggestion is to narrow your search down a bit to weed out some of the chaff.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Yes I have, have you? It doesn't actually cover the basics and a lot of the info/links are out of date.

Yes, I've done that too hence why I am in a position to comment. This forum isn't very searchable compared to most. Search for any carputer term and you will get loads of useless junk to weed through for possibly 1 or 2 useful posts. And thats if you know a good keyword to search for. Put in anything generic and you are overwealmed and unlikey to find a relevant post.

Its easy to write off noobs as not trying and in a lot of cases they dont bother, but in a lot of other cases they simply can't find the info because the forum makes it difficult for them. As someone who is trying to solve a problem it is damn annoying when you spend hours trawling through irrelevant rubbish, finally decide to ask a question and then get flamed for asking when someone can usually solve the problem in an instant just by telling you.

I think it covers all the basics quite well, it got all of my difficult carputer questions out of the way. And they do try to keep the faqs up to date

    Best Windows platform Navigation system

There is a software called DIRECTIONS that does it for Europe. But it is very tacky. You select a British voice, and you have an Aussie talking to you. When you take a wrong turn, it says "YOU ARE LOST!". Also, it gives you long routes to destinations and doesn't do house numbers and post codes.

I've heard of Destinator and it seems pretty good but haven't checked it out yet.

The best one and best reviews I have seen is about ALK's CO-PILOT. I am yet to buy that one. It has voice recognition so you can ask it questions and it will reply back to you. Also, as I understand it that it searches by post code and will go to your house number, but don't quote me on that one. Problem is that it is the most expensive one to buy!

lol what makes me laugh is when people spend longer moaning about someone being a newbie, than it would take them to answer the question.

Marvin Hlavac is there a demo then? how come you've got it when you live in canada? lol i really wanna try it before i buy it, as i have absolutly no idea what iguidance is like, and i couldnt find a demo of europe.

No, I'm afraid there is no demo of iGuidance. But iGuidance North America has been around for a while and it does have very good reputation. I would expect the new European version to be equally good.

(But while the product is excellent, the marketing is almost non-existent.)

You could get a ruff idea what the program is like by reading the following two reviews of the software with North American maps. The first review is an older one, and it talks about the laptop version. The second review talks about the PocketPC version, (but the two versions, PC and PocketPC, are really identical).
