SiRF or NMEA

Just as topic suggests...

I just got a new BR-355, but i'm confused as to whether i should use SiRF or NMEA. I'm in the USA if that changes anything.

Use NMEA (I don't think you will find a navigation software capable of reading SIRF)

um.. Destinator 2 uses SIRF. NMEA is extremely popular with the majoritory of GPS programs. kinda sad since SIRF feels much better.

so use NMEA for major compatibility

Much better... bah, even if Sirf is faster in baud-ly speaking, the GPS still updates once every second...

You can buy GPS receivers which update 5 times per second but I suspect navigation software would still refresh only once per second (but I haven't tried it).

Destinator must refresh more often in SIRF mode, as voice directions happens earlier than in NMEA mode. Also you can use EGNOS or WAAS to increase accurancy in SIRF mode (up to 2m in EGNOS !!!).

I'm not sure of this. The gps spits datas out as soon as they're available. That makes me think the nav sofware updates as soon as activity is detected in COM port.
