Never saw any hardware on this and the technology has probably changed by now but I thought it was a good idea.

I like the donut POI better. Probably more accurate.
I have seen hardware for this. Some company made a radar detector with this technology built in. I'll see if I can find it.

When i lived in the foothills north of where i live now. We had Security drive around and patrol the area. A good 5 square miles give or take a mile. Anyways at that time i wanted to build tracking systems and stick them on each security car. They only had 3 or 4. But at that time I new a lot less about electronics and a lot more about getting into trouble

Would be cool to pick up on the PD frequencies. They must have a constant uplink to the main station. How hard could it be to tap into... i mean track. Or they might be more primitive then us and use cell phone connections. Its not like there surfing the web or streaming video. Cell phone, dial up, get information and hang up would be enough for them.

I guess the doughnut POI will have to work. How would you do that in mappoint? Can you download extra POI's? <-- real questions.
Um, I guess this is where you put something witty.WITTY

I am not entirely sure of the model number but it is something like Uniden Beartracker BCT-75? I can check on it, I have one in my car. Or at least I think it is what you are talking about. It is a scanner with some sort of detector built into it. Whenever a cop's repeater is transmitting nearby, it emits this god-awfully loud siren. Of course, it doens't work unless they are using their repeaters. And as far as my understanding goes, it should work for most areas of the country, since it is open for the bands that the FCC allows for use with repeaters. (Or at least that were allowed for use)

I had one of those, but the scanner part was too annoying for me, so I never used it.

The BCT-12 is what I had.. overview in the middle of this article: http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=8000

The BCT-12 is the one I had as well. Cannot recall much about it other than I was not impressed, but I was using it in the city where a radar detector would be more useful.

That's not what I was talking about, but it has similar features that mine has. Mine is a full size scanner. It's pretty useful on roadtrips by myself. Gives you something to listen to. But when it picks up on one of those repeaters, GD do you know it. And once you get your hearing back, you can bring your speed down.

    What make/model is it?

I want one without the stupid scanner, but just the police part (and without having to manually lock out a bunch of channels).

I don't know exactly what you asking for. You want the police finding part, but not the scanner? Mine is primarily a scanner, and a finder 2nd. You could just select a police band with nothing in it. But that kinda defeats the purpose of a scaner. The model is a Uniden BCT-350, I think. I searched and that one looks very similar. Mine might be some sort of off shoot though.

So I'm thinking of the crew at MP3.COM. Thinking of this thread, and the totally funny Enforcer doughnut comment.

    WTG!

I was actually at Krispy Kreme one day, and a police cruiser pulled out just ahead of me. As I was getting on the freeway, I saw the same cruiser pull into a Dunkin Donuts, man I wish I had a video camera.

Oh, and BTW, I have recently gotten GPS support working in my Valentine One Software. Right now it only logs position, speed and heading, but I dream of a day when we all have always on internet connections in the car and I can get a GPS based alert from someone on the road ahead of me, when I can filter out the 3 false positives in an area, but catch the fourth, or auto mute when I am going the speed limit.

P.S. Along with speeding, downloading music or video game ROMs is generally illegal (unless you have the right to do so) and most of your car computer functions are illegal in mosts states if the screen is in the view of the driver. I can't say that I look down on you for any of those activities, but if you perform any of them, you do engage in criminal activities.

talking about donuts attracts cops... I was driving one day when lights were flashing behind me.. I pulled over nervous thinking I did something wrong when they zip passed me and just stopped at the Dunkin Donut 2 blocks down.

hmmm... maybe I should keep a bag of donuts with me in case I ever get pulled over. Would this be able to hold up in court as bribery?
