Thread: Wow, that's fast!

I've never heard of a flight going down because of someone's little device confused the plane and made it crash. The reason we have these rules is because the people who write them are old and afraid of everything. One time I was sending a text message right after landing, while we were just rolling to the terminal. The guy next to me started freaking out getting all ****ed at me, saying hes a powerful man and he can have me 'taken care of'. I thought it was so rediculous! I walked away while he yelled at me in the terminal... really strange. What was I gonna blow the plane up or something? Accidentally initiate the self-destruct sequence?

It's just because he saw my little phone with the little keyboard and got all freaked out about 'radio interference'. Good God!

I thought rules were made for people to follow.
I suppose you make your own road rules to suit yourself as well?
If you think its so stupid then go tell the airport what you did, thats if
you are so certain that you are correct. Then see what happens.

Once you inside the plane you have to follow their rules. This is no difference in going to a country and not obeying their rules. I tell you this, you will **** yourself if you find yourself thrown in a jail in some thirdworld country for doing something that you would would normally do in your backyard.

Whether you will crash the plane or not, once a rule is made you just gonna have to follow it. The plane already landed but still need to communicate with the control tower. If I was that guy sitting next to you, I would have chocked you to death. Ill rather see one man dead than many dead, yeah Ill be hailed as a hero too. Seriously your txt is really not that important is it?

A HOLIDAYMAKER who was caught smoking on a passenger jet has been left stranded in Cyprus after Thomas Cook chiefs banned him from travelling on the company's flights.

The man was discovered in the toilets of a 757 jet after setting off the fire alarms on the way from Manchester to Larnaca in Cyprus.

Despite being warned by crew members, the Manchester man was said to have shown no remorse and seemed unconcerned by his actions.

Thomas Cook said the passenger's behaviour put the lives of the 233 passengers and seven crew at risk. The company also said the man had been told he would be no longer welcome on its jets in future following the incident on Wednesday. .

The man will have to find his own way home when he is due to return on a flight to Manchester on August 4.

A file is also being compiled for the police and the passenger now faces prosecution for endangering an aircraft. If found guilty he is liable for a heavy fine or even a short prison sentence.

Thomas Cook spokesman Shaun Robinson said: "Safety is of paramount importance on board.

"This person recklessly acted in this manner to endanger the aircraft by smoking in a compartment, which exhibited a visible sign stating what action would be taken.

"A file will be passed to Manchester Airport Police."

One day you might wanna do that too or break some law in thailand and see if its still fun in the jail.

I doubt you are in your preteens and it just doesnt make sense why you still behave like that. But by all means, if you wanna do anything silly, next time please do it alone.

Some people dont really understand this. Ill love to see the authority takes them away for not complying. Ruining your holiday for something like this is simply aint worth it.

I remember when we where landing once, the passengers was told to remain seated until they were told its all ok. What did the few passenger did? as soon as the plane touched the ground they released the seatbelt and got up "AS IF" they can open the door themselves and jump off the plane, what a bunch of dicks I though.

Yeah, they got in front of us sure, but they still have to wait for their laguages to show up and we got ours before them.

i have nothing to back this up, but a coworker told me that the reason why they have you shut off your phones is because of an agrement they have with cell phone companies. I guess that flying so fast over the antennas forces them to try to 'keep up with you' switching from one antenna to the next. now this isnt a big deal when you are talking about a few phones, but 1,000's of phones doing this could bog down there service.

after doing a little research, there is *SOME* validity to this:

The FCC has its own cell-phone ban, but it has nothing to do with airplane safety. The FCC says signals emitted by phones in the air could occupy multiple cell towers on the ground and cause interference with calls on the ground. This interference might even allow analog cell phone users to listen to others' conversations on the ground

but there are a bunch of other factors involved. here is the reference article:

Probably true as well, but we all know cell phone do interfere with sensitive electronic devices.

I used to look after servers, plenty of all sorts, probably a room half the size of a football pitch. Big sign on the board "NO MOBILE PHONE ALLOWED", we are only allowed to use the landline they provided inside the server room.

You may say bull****, but those guys just wanna be in the safe side.

Heck, Ive never risk bringing the phone in that room cause I know Ill be fired if caught using it...it just aint worth it.


As for the phone probably bringing down the networks due to many cell phones switching antennas. You can see they are worried about their service going down, in reality so what? What if everyone is allowed to use their phone inside the plane? We have like hundreds of pasenger in there that can potentially interfere with the planes communnication. Their concern should be more toward the safety on the passenger rather than the cell phones network gettting bog down...if that make any sense?

First, I dont fly much, I've only done it about 4 or 5 times in my life.

Second, no where in my post did I even come close to implying that I am "one of those people who ignore the request and leave them on".
