    Rikaline 6010 Issues

I have been using the Rikaline 6010 GPS receiver for a few months without any trouble. Starting a few weeks ago it has been acting very strange. Sometimes it will take 10 minutes or so to get a lock, and I haven't had it lock on to more than 5 at once.

Does anyone have any ideas for me to try? Anyone else have such difficulties with the particular receiver? I've been searching the forums on this issue and couldn't find any related posts specific to this receiver. On the other hand, the thread for the BU303 describing an issue thought to be caused by a rechargable battery inside the unit describes symptoms very similar to what I am experiancing. You can view that thread here.

    Any input would be wonderful.

I have read similar posts, but never could find a battery in my 6010. Have you unplugged the receiver lately? I know sometimes my USB devices act goofy if I plug them into a different port. For instance, my touchscreen wouldn't work when I unknowingly switched ports with my Rikaline...try a different USB port.

Another issue could be power. USB devices are typically powered off the USB itself unless you have an external power supply, which the 6010 does not. Have you added anything to your system that is drawing more power from the PSU? USB devices react oddly when they don't have neough juice.

Hope this helps. I can't really think of anything else.

I removed the battery last night. It is inside the metal casing when you open it up. I had to remove a lot of solder to get inside. After removing the battery, the unit would not work at all. I may have made a mistake when I was soldering though so I'll have to check that. Good point about the power [ITL], but I don't think that's it as my setup has not changed much.

So, I'm considering purchasing a new receiver if I really can't get this one fixed. It looks like the BU-353 is real solid.

You are using the Rikaline? I have it setup with my 600Mhz PII laptop. The thing is, it used to work fine.
