Do the buttons you added give focus to nmeaGE and send keystrokes or is it just doing zooming and tilting on GE itself?

Zooming and tilting on GE running with nmeaGE's kml file is obsolete because it always takes data from nmeaGE and refreshes every second.

From what motodude mentioned, nmeaGE needs to be on top in order for you to send keystrokes to it and change zoom/ tilt, so I am just using girder to restore nmeaGE and send keys to it. Of course my nmeaGE is kinda "hiding" on the bottom area so it doesn't block much of the screen.

I must say that the coolness factor of GE is a definite 10. Specially when you are driving around 3D buildings

@ moahdib - What we want to do is find a way to disable nmea or earthbridge so that we can still use GE features -zooming, using addresses, playing routes.

I haven't actually used any those screens yet, so any help or ideas you have are welcome.

@ 12Vsystems - if you can figure that out, A LOT more people willl be able to use these programs.

    @ PURDooM - Thanks, man!

SkinBedder can embed nemaGE and keep it hidden while sending keystrokes to it (so it would be just like the remote control in EarthBridge [that doesn't exist yet]). Yes, I tried EarthBridge. The tracking lines are awesome and it seems to work much smoother/better than nemaGE, but it has no hot-keys and you can't change the picture yet. It is in early-beta stages. If the guy really does what he has planned for it, it will be awesome though.

As for the cached data, a large part of the coolness factor appears in traffic/weather overlays, Google Local searches, and other "live" data. This is the GPS of the future, and it requires a constant connection to work well. cellular is pretty good right now, Wi-Max and others are coming soon. Besides, google doesn't want you caching data... I foresee a not so distant future where ad/coupon-icons pop-up on your GE map as you drive past places running Google Ads. I'm still not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but at least it's a pretty cool thing to be possible.

    New interface design.

Upper left - route view | play route | car view

Left middle - enter address and prefrences

Lower left - mode | reset tilt/zoom/rotation | toggle path

On a side note, I got my new phone today. Let me just say, it is killer. Everything you could ever want in a phone is in there - Samsung A900. For an extra $10 a month, I get unlimited web, picture and video mail, and TV at broadband speed! It even comes with a USB cord that will charge it. (read: it's good for Google Earth in the car)

Nice job Merc. You are getting a good interface going. One thing I would definatly need is a lot of different zoom-levels. "route view | play route | car view" is a great start. I also need one for "traffic-overlay view", "car-zoomed-in", "car-zoom-medium", "car-zoom-out". Also a "destination zoomed-in".

Great work mercury7! Skins are looking very nice! I have been playing around with both nmeaGE and Earth Bridge tha last few days and found out that Earth Bridge has a big abvantage for me at least, the 1 second refresh rate! It trakse you much smoother and stays close to yous real position. Other that that I must admit that the program is still very bugy but promesing! I've been talking the the guy that made it he is really tring to make it better. I will be beta testing for him.

MotoDude: Is it posible to make the refresh rate of nmeaGE 1 instead of 4??

um... nmeaGE defaults to 2 second and you can easily change it to 1 second in the config.

EarthBridge is great. I love the path mark. It really needs:
    1) Change of ICON (so you can put a pic of your car)
    2) Hot-Keys so I can make SKINbedder control it.
    3) A hot-key to dissable the network refresh so I can dissable it when showing directions, traffic, and other non-GPS centered views.

If you know the guy making EarthBridge, send him to this forum. Maybe we can all work together to get a real NAV solution using GE.

I've been using EarthBridge. It’s great but I have two I've had issues with it so far:

1.) It doesn’t always recognize valid fix on from my GPS, a Garmin 35. I know my GPS has a fix but it isn't always detected, it gets the NMEA data just fine, must be some kind of weird parsing error. If I hit the "connect to gps device" and "disconnect" buttons about 10 times it will work.
2.) It is slow to zoom in on my location when first starting. I have mine set to view at 1000 feet, but it starts zoomed out to see the whole globe and it takes about 3-4 minutes to zoom in from that level all the way down to 1000 feet.
