This is a fourm for CarPC's...
hello all........
I have just ordered a 2006 mazda 3 gt, with oem navigation setup. My question is i know the set up has a dvd player because thats how the new maps, updates and new poi's are integrated into the unit, but how do i get it to play dvd's ??? Is there a mod , firmware or some kind of other update???
i believe i posted this in the gps forum, so how does it not apply?????
Because this is a forum for CarPCs. The GPS section is for GPS hardware that works with CarPCs.
If your Nav system doesn't support DVD playback from the factory, chances are it won't at all. There are some services that will 'convert' your unit to accept video input from an external DVD player, but that can be pricey and you have to ship off your unit. Some other places have interfaces you can plug in yourself, still pricey, around $600.
Do a google search around for it, there're a couple of places that do it.
I looked into said options for my factory Nav in my Pontiac Vibe, before finally realizing it was too expensive and not as cool as just building a CarPC. (With the money I made off selling the factory nav on ebay)
ya know when i was at the dealership they kept trying to sell me a used 3.. so i said ok and took a test drive, well he decided he wanted to drive for a bit? so in the passenger seat i noticed the dvd and kept asking him questions about if it worked with dvds ect.. but we tried it and it didnt. ive been pondering that for a while.. because it must know which disks to read and which not for some reason it seems more complicated then to just put the dvd in their. oh well?
I think you've been "woll pulled over" on ya
what on earth do you mean? the gps dvds arent like a movie!Originally Posted by Ravin13
they are different, prolly computer dvd discs, so the gps dvd unit just looks for its file, and wont play movies cause it doesnt know how to...
whats difficult about that?!

Any ideas for putting a PC in this? :)
When we tested them i grabbed dvds out of my car, and if your talking about the format of like dvd-rom. then we tried it. and it didnt work.
the nav gps system, unless it is explicitly capable of playing dvds, then it will only know to open its own format... just cause it is a DVD disc doesnt mean at all that it will be able to open files, images, films or anything else on it.... it might just be able to read the specific maps it was made for...
of course, this all changes if the unit is able to play oyhter formats, but if they dont advertise it anywhere it probably cant do it
