I had the same thing when I tried using the gps viewer. For some reason it would not work, but the gps unit works fine when using a mapping software.
I purchased a GPS unit from holux after reading the results on this forum. It's the new gr213 with sirfIII chipset. The thing has worked flawless for about 1 week. Since a few days it won't get a fix anymore I've tried reinstalling but it seems that the software is working correct. When I open gps viewer I get this:
Is the GPS dead?
if it has the Sirf III, couldn't you enable the WAAS to help a bit? And are you running it with a "cold" start?

I'll try it! I've tried al the starting modes.Originally Posted by binary.h4x

Today, no fix ... grmbl..
Where did you place your GPS unit?
Mine often got fix before It enters OS even cold start in the morning.
98 Honda civic
In-Dash LCD Monitor K-301
Holux GR 213 Sirf Star III GPS
CNX-P1900 power supply
Sound Blaster Live USB
The gps is at the back of the car.. underneath the rear window. Where it has worked for a whole week. So it has a clear view of the sky. If I boot the pc, wait for 20min so that it get's a fix everything is ok. Until the gps get's 'cold' and then I have to wait again.
You may want to experiement by placing it in different places in the car. I have gone through 2 gps units thinking the units were the problem. After I got my second unit, I was driving and it got knocked out of place, but I noticed it got a lock in like 15 seconds (instead of the former 5-8 minutes). In short, my problem as that I chose a location based on aesthtics (center of the dash, nearest to the wind shield) and not by best function (center of the dash, to the left of the car, right in eye view of the front passenger). If you have a waterproof unit, put it on the roof of the car. Good luck.
It's been a few months and I still have this problem. I've been playing with drivers/com drivers jus to make sure it's not my own fault. When i unplug the usb drive and replug it in another port it always works like a charm!
At which baudrate should the comport emulator run? 4800?
