you need the source of the software, I thinkOriginally Posted by Civic03
I'm not sure if I'm reading this right or not but I use Iguidance while listening to music in my truck all the time. When it prompts me the music level goes down until after the prompt is done. (Are you talking about music from another source like radio, cd?) This is when Iím playing mp3ís using my carputer.
1. Tap Menu, Volume.
2. Select the volume level.
3. Tap the Test button to hear the volume level.
4. Tap OK to accept or Cancel to reject the change and return to Map screen.
I'm not sure if this is what you need but it works great for me.
Hi Reggie, yes I'm talking about any source. Obviously the computer has to control the source for this to work; i.e. I don't think the carpc can lower my HU volume unless there's a way to do this and I don't know about.
For any other volume that's coming from the PC I would like this. I also plan on using Sirius so this will come in handy as the computer will control Sirius and hopefully the volume. Are these settings above done in IG?
Yes these settings are in IG, It works great for me. Let me know how it goes for you.
What about taking more of a hardware approach to the problem of muting the music when nav instructions are given? I use a laptop for my CarPC, which has a built-in sound card, and I also have an Audigy ZS Notebook card in the PCMCIA slot - so I have two sound cards.
I've read that you can configure WinAmp (which is used by RoadRunner) to select which sound card it uses. I'm wondering if I can set WinAmp to use one sound card, and then have iGuidance use the other. This way I'll have two RCA cables, each with different app audio output. Then I can use an audio switcher device like this to automatically switch the output being sent to the car amplifier when any sound is received from the iGuidance output cable, and when it's done, switch back to the WinAmp cable.
I'm not sure this will work yet, but I thought I'd float it here and see what anyone thinks.
FYI, there was some discussion about hardware switching (Navigation voice mutes my radio...is this possible?) with some links to devices.

While your all going into very complicated sol'n, why not start simple?
IE, Wave volume is 50%. If you double the current gain of the all the wave files iGuidance uses, then the Wave volume can decrease by some value X. Possibly, half. taking this assumption, then Wave Volume should be set at 25%. This would lower music in the background while the Wave file should still sound loud because of the gain change.
