I think I found the display error. Looks like regional numbers are being converted properly. Working on it.

    CommTest2 (build 10032) available

    Tour, take a look now.

    0.3.3.1 (July 19, 2006)

    • Corrected regional error that developed when new code was added.

    0.3.3.0 (July 19, 2006)
    • Changed the way log files are saved. When satellite lock is not made, data will cont to be logged.
    • Fixed a problem with bad data when too many items were in a NMEA sentences.
    • Setting transmit bit off before shutting down com port. Should decrease, hopefully eliminate, com port program lock ups.
    • Outputting NMEA data even if no satellite info, especially time info, has been received. New file will be based on pc time and not sat time. Times may not match.
    • Numerous internal changes to write file system and other portions of code.
    • Files are not created if no data is received.
    • Settings to change Communication (Serial) ports are available.
    • Zoom level below 1 will step at .2 and zoom will not drop below .2.

    Freekin' beauty mate!

Now I just need my car adapter for my laptop (the battery is completely dead..) - and I'll take this thing on the road for testing. I have ordered one from eBay, so it shouldn't be too far away..

Too bad there are no roads in GE for Australia yet. They have got them on Google Maps now, so hopefully they will migrate into Google Earth as well. Would be interesting to see what could be done with turn-by-turn navigation and stuff. Could CommTest2 request directions from GE, and read the KML result, and then read out directions while displaying the directions in GE? I know we're talking future here, but do you see this happening?

    Thanks again!

Not quite sure if this is what you meant. To load a KML directions page click the load guide on the contol panel. You can also create your own guide with a from a POI list. create POI's by pressing the backspace key at the position you want a poi. Its probably not the best system of turn by turn directions, but if it helps ...

just reread your post. Commtest2 doesnt directly talk to ge, via api or any other means. Not sure if GE will ever open that door. Would be nice though, but probably not so good for them with all the extra bandwith and all. Maybe someday someone will come up with a good temperary solution and create a little program to do the same. If so it could be a menu item.

Glad to see the program is up and running. I dont tend to catch all the errors, and regional errors are the slickest. please post if anything comes up. Happy driving.

Thanks for your help...I have been trying to figure it out. I really do not know how to "cache" and how with only a gps signal (no internet) to get gps satellite photos.

When I downloaded the free version of GoogleEarth I couldn't figure out how to activate my gps locater. IF YOU WONT ANSWER MY OTHER QUESTIONS WILL YOU ANSWER THIS ONE?

    I'll answer it... SEARCH!

There has been much discussion on this board about caching Google Earth so you don't need internet as well as ways to get cheap ($6/mo) internet in the car!

Google Earth doesn't support live GPS. That's why CommTest2 was created (as well as GooPs, nemaGE, and EarthBridge... all of which have been discussed all over this board).

To use commtest2, will I need to download the $20 google earth version, or will the free one work?
