ET301 Eval board

Just recieved it!

No - it's not my picture...my camera phone just can't get that detailed.

Now I'm just waiting to get the antenna from the mp3car.com store and I'll be able to set it up...

that and I guess I need a battery for it it looks like.

Hi, Red.

I've read your post on what you were buying, as well as the OEM GPS Install thread, but I'm really not clear on what the advantage is to the OEM GPS over a USB solution. It seems like much more work, so there must be a compelling reason to do it, I just don't know what it is.

I look forward to your updates on how this card performs.

Is that a GPS Receiver? JUst plug in a usb cable from the pc to that unit and add an antenna?

Cheekz - yes

The benefits to running OEM are a more integrated install, instant on, better sensitivity, better lock, etc.

Will I notice as much of a difference over the bu-353? Who knows.

I'm looking for a totally integrated CarPC solution. This is just another part of it.

No need to find somewhere to put that USB GPS unit now.

i know im old... but if thats your actual board... back in the day when i worked as a bench tech on a surface mount production line... we marked the defective solder joint/problem with a red dot after troubleshooting and sent it to rework.... then they put the green tab on it when it passed test.... but QC should remove the dots... lol... so how does your board look... i would look at the solder joint on the ic where the red dot is pointing to....

ah ... nevermind i see its the stock photo... lol.. know way i would have let that pic get on the site for the public to see...

What's the frequency at which it updates the GPRMC data?

That reminds me of when I worked at Bayer Diagnostics, subdivision of Bayer Pharmaceuticals that makes analysis equipment (blood, urine, whatever) that mass-process samples.

Anyway, to make a long story short, I was working on one of the muckety-muck's PCs and I happened to glance over at the wall and saw a framed promo poster of one of the analysis machines.. with three monitors.. and the one smack-dab in the middle had a BSOD.

Needless to say, he wasn't too thrilled when I explained the irony of the whole situation to him.
