1. if you have a compactflash slot you could use a compactflash gps, if you have bluetooth, you could use a bluetooth gps. You will want to make sure, however, that you have a flash memory slot available for map data.
e.g. if you ONLY have a compactflash slot (and no SD), then you would want to go with a bluetooth gps so that you can fit your map data on a compactflash card. If you have both cf and sd slots, then you can go with either bluetooth or compactflash gps, since you can insert an sd card with the map data if you go with the cf gps.
2. iGuidance, Tomtom, Destinator, or Navigon.. I'm sure there are others as well that I can't recall at the moment.
3. I'm not sure what you mean.. the GPS map data will be as current as the software's maps.
